How much weight should i lose?

Okay im 17, 5 foot 7 and im 130lbs (9 stone), i’m looking to tone up my body, i really **** exercise but i really want to be healthy, so im going to be doing 30 mins on the rowing machine every other day. I think that if i lost 14lbs i would look too skinny, maybe 7lbs would look okay? Any advice would be great!

Some advice for starting to work out at a gym?

I want to start using the gym. I have access to one with; a bike, dumbbells, rowing machines, pool/surf and basic weight machine. I’m currently 96kg and 6’1 tall. I want to get around 85kg, toned and fit. I was thinking of using the bike, then doing reps with the bells but I have no idea what to do as I haven’t had much experience working out.

Is rowing good to lose my manboobs and beer belly?

Im a 29 year old bloke and i broke my leg and ankle 2 and a half years ago and since then have put on over 60lbs – most of it over the 4 months i was off my feet, laid up and eating rubbish. I still havent lost it and want to get it sorted before im 30! I was by no means skinny beforehand, but i still have pains in my leg/ankle and dont think its a good idea to go running when im as heavy as i am. I was doing weights with my mate and sit-ups for my gut but all it seems to do is push my fat out, builds muscle under the flab. It even made the manboobs more prominant. So i stopped that. My mate said you wanna do cardiovascular to burn excess flab. So would buying a rowing machine be worthwhile? Would it target the manboob area, flatten them down a bit? I was also thinking of buying some of these fat burning pills and take them before i do rowing! Does this sound like a good way to burn the belly n *****?

Is sleep or exercise more important for a highschool guy?

I’m a junior in high school and have a very busy schedule. At this point I’m getting 6-8 hours of sleeps a night.

I’m considering adding an hour of exercise to my schedule every morning. I’d wake up an hour earlier at 6AM, do the posture exercises my physical therapist has been bugging me about, do stretches, dumbell exercises, crunches, push-ups, etc, then go for a mile run (or rowing machine, it gets frigid in Boston).
I’m pretty out of shape (not overweight) and I think exercise would help get a good start to my day, boost my confidence/mood, etc.

Would this be a good thing for me to do? It means sacrificing sleep and getting only 6 hours per day, which might not be so good. Junior year is hard with SATs, APs and everything.

Also, should I eat breakfast before or after working out?

What should I save up 4: a top quality rowing machine or a round-trip 2 the Philippines?

The rowing machine is made by this company called Concept2. The rower is a little bit more than $800.
These two choices seem like a pretty big difference in terms of amount of money, but they’re not really.
Last time I went to the Philippines with 2 former [Filipino] co-workers (husband & wife), his elderly parents, & their toddler son, was in 2004. It cost $800 round-trip & I brought $800 in cash (cash advance on my credit card) cuz they were going to take care of my lodging, etc. & I wanted to give back. A few months ago, they asked me to come with them in March 2008 to go to their other son’s graduation from high school in the Philippines. In March, it’s really hot & it’s not a popular time for travel, so fares should be cheap. Even if I got an $800 air fare round trip, I’d still have to come up w/ at least $400 if I at least wanted to buy stuff to bring back. I really really want to go but I really really want to get ripped too using the rower (full body workout). What do I do?

What is the perfect rowing machine technique?

I’ve recently been given a rowing machine from my brother however he has lost the instruction booklet and seeing as I’ve only ever used one once there’s a few things I want to know!

1) My overal fitness is pretty good. I go cycling/running every morning however I want to build up some more muscle. Which areas do running machines target?

2) How long should I be working out on it if I am doing so every other day?

And most importantly…

3) What is the “perfect” rowing technique? It would be really helpful if someone could post some step-by-step insructions.

Much love in advance!
